General Description The Radisson Blu Gewandhaus Hotel is located in the heart of the historical centre, next to the Old Market Square, and just 500 metres from the Elbe river. Baroque Dresden, capital of the Free State of Saxony, is one of Germany`s most beautiful cities, and the hotel lies conveniently close to many of its major attractions. Nearby are the city hall and Church of the Holy Cross. Other famous sights such as the Semper Opera House, Zwinger, Bruehl's Terrace and Church of Our Lady now being reconstructed after originally being left as a war memorial are just a short walk away. The history of the Gewandhaus can be traced back to 1295, when the cloth hall was mentioned in documents for the first time. First built as a warehouse in 1768-1770, the Gewandhaus was reduced to a burnt-out shell by heavy bombing in 1945, before being rebuilt as a hotel in the sixties. Now Radisson Blu has completed a lavish refurbishment program. The hotel has an own parking area with additional public parking nearby. This unique hotel, whose facade has been restored to the original baroque style of Dresden`s famous architect Johann Friedrich Knobel, has 94 double rooms and three suites, all furnished in the Biedermeier style.
