Montmartre (hill of the martyrs in French) in Paris is located on the right bank of the River Seine. It is the highest point of Paris, it is topped by the famous Church of Sacré-Cœur.

Parts of the ancient quarter on its slopes were long a favorite residence of the bohemian world. Until early the 20th century.

Montmartre retained a rural look and provided material for Van Gogh, Pissarro, Utrillo, and other artists. Montmartre is also famed for its nightlife; among its many nightclubs is the Moulin Rouge

The cemetery of Montmartre contains the tombs of Stendhal, Renan, Heine, Berlioz, and Alfred de Vigny.

The town of Montmartre was annexed to Paris in 1860. The hill, a natural fortress, played a military role during the Paris Commune (1871) and other periods.

Owfull The first sight, while aproching, at night, in the taxi, was a neigbourhood badly iluminated, with plenty of sex shops and some quite drunk people. The clerk speaking nothing but french and some poor english, tries to explain you that you have to decide that night, if you are having breakfast at the hotel the following morning, so you cannot make plans on the run. Breakfast is not included, 6€, if you will. Once in the tiny elevator, in which we tightly fitted since we were two adults and two suitcases, we got to the last floor (5th) and found a door, easy to open if you "forget" the key. Once the door was open, some kind of moisture smell hit us right in the face (not appropiate for a romantic weekend, as it was meant to be...) a tiny room was appearing to our eyes (leaving both suitcases in the floor, there was only a little aisle to reach and open the window, through the room. THE BATHROOM... It was more like a cupboard with a W.C. A shower surface, instead of a tub, so you could not even take a bath. With some sort of green dust in the drain and mold in the shower itself. CONCLUSION: I would not come back even for free.

i was travelling with my sister and her boyfriend, and a friend.. it was our first time at Fiat, i will definitely come back,, very cheap price for a room for 3 .. spacious, compfy beds,, very close to the subway,, and to the moulin rouge,, the neighbourhood is probably not the best to wander at in the night, as are all red light districts,, but it is clean, and calm during the day !!

Montmartre may be famous for its maze of narrow streets and staircases, its vineyard and authentic village atmosphere, where imposing Haussmann and 1930s style buildings rub shoulders with charming houses and tiny gardens. But it's also renowned for its nightlife - the multitude of cabarets, including the Moulin Rouge, cafes with resident portraitists, cinemas and bars ensure the partying never stops.

A comfortable stay with facilities to make the overall cost of eating out lower. The area at night is a bit of a hassle as there is a expectation that you might be interested in adult entertainment.

Lovely hotel, in a really convenient location for both Montmartre and the rest of Paris (via the nearby metro station). The multilingual staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is only a few steps from the excellent cafes and shops and yet it was very quiet and restful. Also just a short walk from the Sacre Coeur basilica and the artistic centre of Montmartre. An ideal hotel from which to base a holiday in Paris.

Nice area in Montmartre, just 20 meters from les deux Moulins, the local bar and workplace of Amèlie de Poulain (if you saw the movie..). Very friendly and helpful staff - housekeeping and cleanliness of rooms is excellent. Very small rooms though - but we thought it excellent. Very quiet - hardly any sound at all from the streets. French continental breakfast, however somewhat expensive at 13 Euros...

My wife and I stayed in a standard double room at The Relais Montmarte for two nights. The hotel's location is charming, in a quiet arty side street with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk, and close to a metro. While our standard room was on the small side (this is typical in Paris I'm told), it was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, as were all the public areas. The multilingual staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We didn't book breakfast at the hotel, however there are plenty of cafes on the doorstep which open early (even on a Sunday morning). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Relais Montmartre and have no hesitation in recommending it.
